Boating Lake out for Llanyravon Court Nursing Home in Cwmbran.

Llanyravon Court Nursing Home in Cwmbran started off the month with beautiful weather. We took advantage of being able to get out and about to enjoy the sunshine. The weather stayed around for a good two weeks. It was great to enjoy lots of outdoor activities and visits. We have a gorgeous boating lake locally. Staff and residents have been popping down to our local boating lake. Residents Valerie Lewis, David Davies, Hazel Pook, Sheila Mazden and Howard Mills all enjoyed a few hours by the lake.

Activities

We have been using ‘Oomph – On demand’ regularly. We have been using the activity booklets that they have created and taking part in the group activities. These booklets are specially designed to engage and stimulate our residents. Our favourite booklets this month have been ‘Spring Activity Book’ and the ‘Artistic Activity Book’. These booklets provide hours of entertainment. They have puzzles, general knowledge facts and provide great topics of conversation. They provide something for everyone. We also download some great games from Oomph for residents. Again, they have provided some great fun and entertainment. In addition, our Activities Co-ordinator, Catherine has produced bingo sessions, reminiscence sessions and special 1:1 time.

The residents enjoyed an activity with our former activity coordinator Erin before her departure. Erin spent time with the residents drawing up self-portraits. Some of which were really good and brought out the inner Picasso in our residents! Great effort from all who took part. These have been displayed at the front of Llanyravon Nursing home so visitors can see them.

Birthday Celebrations at Llanyravon Court Nursing Home in Cwmbran

July was a busy month for birthdays. The residents that celebrated were Joyce Rosser, Valerie Lewis, Ruth Morgan, Hazel Pook and Marjorie Tremlett. To celebrate their birthdays, we held a BBQ party. Staff from every department helped put it together. Nigel, our maintenance man, hosted the BBQ and Catherine, our Activities Co-ordinator put on some activities. Care staff got involved in the BBQ and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. During the BBQ we held a raffle that allowed relatives, staff and friends to purchase tickets. We raised £100 which will go towards our activity’s fund.

Pen-Y-Fan

To help raise funds for our activities department, we had arranged to complete a walk up Pen-y-fan which was scheduled to take place on the 21st of July. Unfortunately, due to the heatwave, we had that week we had to postpone. A date has not yet been rescheduled for this walk but so far we have raised an amazing £265 which is amazing. We cannot thank staff, relatives and friends enough for the continuous support.

Renovations at Llanyravon Court Nursing Home in Cwmbran

The renovations continue within Llanyravon. In July we have completed decorating our small lounge, where our visits take place. This included new wallpaper, shelving and flooring. The area now looks modern, bright and homely. We have had lots of compliments about the room from visiting relatives and residents. Also, our communal areas are receiving some TLC.

We are focused on ensuring the environment the residents reside in is as they would like it. So, we have also started decorating bedrooms to the taste of the residents. It is important that each resident is happy in their surroundings with home from home comforts and individual tastes catered for.

Gardens at Llanyravon Court Nursing Home in Cwmbran

One of the biggest challenges that needed to be faced was our garden areas. They had become overgrown and unsightly throughout COVID-19. Hard work and love was needed to get them looking beautiful again. We have had two lovely gardeners working hard at achieving our vision of a peaceful and tranquil retreat. So far, we have successfully cleared away all of the weeds and debris, made the patio look sparkling again and began planting flowers to the front and rear of the home. We are pleased with the work completed so far and look forward to seeing it completed.

A big welcome to new staff at Llanyravon Court

We have a variety of new staff join Llanyravon Court throughout July. Assistant cook, Johann, Activity Co-ordinator Catherine and Care Staff; Ceri D, Joanna F and Shannon L. They have all settled in well and we will continue to support them in their roles.

We are not finished there; we do still have vacancies available for care assistants on days and hope to welcome additional staff over the coming weeks.
